Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Genesee County Criminal History, you accept these data practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those query terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

Messages sent directly to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the exchange. They are not shared beyond our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive basic technical and usage information when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Browser version and browser type
  • Device category and operating system
  • Pages viewed and approximate time on them
  • A referring website, when one is supplied
  • The internet protocol address used by the device

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, popular pages, and where a visit ends. Analytics vendors may combine that activity into reports. You may block cookies through your browser, though doing so can change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search to the provider that processes it
  • Maintaining reliable and responsive pages
  • Finding and correcting technical faults
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Genesee County material published here describes how to contact the Sheriff's Office, courts, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a record about another person or a consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information entered into those tools. We do not set those policies. Review the provider's terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to court portals, New York agencies, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across sites and select ads. Their tracking practices are not controlled by us.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring site use and performance
  • Search providers processing a query you submit
  • Advertising networks serving content on a page
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal process

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that an unauthorized event will never occur.

Users Under 18

This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary with where you live. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to government records rather than data held by this private site. Correction Law § 168-q separately limits misuse of public registry data. For information controlled by us, you may:

  • Request access to personal information held about you
  • Ask for inaccurate information to be corrected
  • Seek deletion where the law permits it
  • Object to certain forms of processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as practices change. A new version becomes available on this page and carries its updated effective date.
